S/ALON BUDAPEST 2019 recap

On September 20-22. 2019, the second edition of S/ALON BUDAPEST Interior Design Fair welcomed design enthusiast with endless inspiration, the latest trends and premium brands at Budapest Arena. The event, unmatched in the global design scene, mesmerized visitors for the second time this year, while also re-defining what exhibitions can look like. At S/ALON BUDAPEST, exhibitors replaced the usual theatrics of home decor trade shows with a uniquely designed interior concept, all of which was brought to life through a collaborative creation process, with the help of professional designers and the infrastructure provided by exhibiting brands. The event kept its fresh approach to the world of design thanks to a plethora of novelties and innovations, becoming a worthy successor to last year’s inaugural S/ALON BUDAPEST fair. Read on to revisit the most exciting moments of the exhibition!

Marc Ange

The breathtaking collection of the Franco-Italian artist and designer, living in California, made its first appearance in Hungary at the S/ALON BUDAPEST fair. Titled ‘An Extraordinary World’, the collection is the harmonious union of Italian romanticism, French surrealism and the resplendent world of Californian dreams. After its debut at Milan Design Week 2019, the collection was shown for the second time ever at S/ALON BUDAPEST 2019. The Le Refuge de la Nuit bed, variations of the Refuge lights, the Astral coffee table, as well as the Les Araignées chairs and the Araignée sofa - reminiscent of spider-like creatures - were all part or the designer’s astounding interior, designed by Zselyke Szendrey.

Entrance installations and designers’ interiors

2 wonderful entrance installations and 12 standalone interiors by Hungarian designers - visual concepts created in the spirit of ‘the essence of maximalism’ - made their impact on visitors entering the Arena. These interiors, designed by the 12 winners of our designer competition, were brought to life with our support, and with the contributions of exhibitors, brands and their products.

Winners: Architres Studio, Lilla Békefi, Blushflow Design, Chez Elles, Tímea Kincses, Hajnalka Kónya, Linda Papp / CasaLinda Studio, Pont Co.Lab, The Designory, Beatrix Torma, Tímea Zámbó / Zestilo, Renáta Zsuzsics

Entrance installations: Supercolor Delicates, The entrancing shapes of Marc Ange, designer: Zselyke Szendery

Trend interiors

S/ALON BUDAPEST, in cooperation with the National Association of Interior Decorators and 0614 Design, erected 8 groundbreaking installations, each of them representing an essential, modern design trend. The subtle world of Warm Nordic, playful Memphis, harmonious Wabi-sabi, natural Biophilia, tender Feminine, splendid Charmeur, raw Industrial and dreamlike Traveller interiors showcased a progressive line-up of recent trends, providing visitors with new found inspiration. The creative team of designers and stylists behind the interiors captured the true essence of these design styles with a selection of products of exhibiting brands.

S/ALON Champagne Bar and S/ALON Specialty Café

We opened two lavishly decorated, exclusive pop-up bars at this year’s S/ALON Budapest. Between the hand-painted walls of S/ALON Specialty Café, the extravagant coffee drinks of Kaffeine Espresso Bar welcomed visitors of the event. Furthermore, the champagnes of FineWine contributed to a truly exclusive atmosphere at the S/ALON Champagne Bar, complete with its marble surfaces, gold and copper details. Artist and designer Anna Oláh, founder of the brand Anna Amélie, painted the walls of the Champagne Bar live on Friday with her trademark style of elegant lines.

Perfume and music

The humongous interior of Budapest Arena was filled with a magical scent for S/ALON BUDAPEST, which meant the dispersing of 80 litres of premium quality perfume with the help of equipment specialized for this task. The perfuming of a space of this magnitude has never been done before in Hungary, so we worked together with experts of Lakásparfüm.hu for months prior to the event. To stimulate all the senses of visitors of the Arena, DJ Numbred provided smooth background music for a total of 24 hours throughout the weekend. His playlist will soon be available on SoundCloud.
